90s artist discloses he ‘might have died’ after finding himself in a pool of blood.

Savage Garden singer Darren Hayes has disclosed the severity of his injuries following a ‘terrible accident’ last month.
Darren expressed that he ‘could have died’ had he landed differently, emphasizing that he was ‘so lucky’.
The 52-year-old singer had been trying to keep his illness out of the public eye, but due to the ‘lengthy’ recovery period, he felt compelled to share what transpired.
Still bruised and swollen, it’s been a month since he woke up ‘in a pool of blood’ after losing consciousness and suffering a broken jawbone.
Darren, who rose to fame in the 90s with the debut album Savage Garden, shared a picture of his injuries on Instagram along with a detailed message about the accident.
‘On March 17, 2 months to the day after my Mother passed away, I had a terrible accident,’ he wrote in the caption.

‘I’ve been trying to keep it private, but my lengthy recovery period means it’s easier to admit the truth. I lost consciousness – I fainted shortly after getting out of bed and collapsed 3 times, losing consciousness each time.’
The I Want You hitmaker explained that the ‘blunt force trauma’ was so severe that he had ‘snapped his left jawbone in half’.
He also suffered the loss of nine teeth and experienced intense pain on the left side of his head.
Fortunately, he was found and rushed to the St John’s Providence emergency room in Santa Monica, ‘where they acted quickly’.
Heart issues and neurological concerns were assessed and ruled out, with Darren scheduled for an emergency reconstructive surgery on March 21.

He shared: ‘The incredible surgeons inserted a titanium brace to reconnect my jaw bones, and my mouth was wired shut for a minimum of 8 weeks while the left jaw bone could heal. Prior to the fall, I had been experiencing light-headedness and fainting spells for a period before this incident.
‘I am under incredible care. I have an amazing cardiologist and oral surgeon, and we are trying to figure out how and why I have been fainting. So far, my heart is normal, my arteries are normal, and I don’t have a brain tumor or anything that could cause the accident.
‘No judgment to those who partake, but I do not take drugs or drink alcohol – this was a complete shock. But we are still investigating.’
Darren added that he would be out of action for ‘quite some time’ while his jaw heals and his ‘shattered teeth’ are replaced.

A broken jaw, according to the NHS, takes at least six weeks to heal before rehabilitation of the facial muscles can begin.
He concluded with gratitude for his fans, stating: ‘I’m so grateful to be alive, and every day I’m getting stronger.
‘I’m almost one month post-surgery now and I’m only just starting to feel better. I’m so thankful to my loved ones for coming to my rescue and to the doctors and nurses who have treated me with such care.
‘After surviving a brutal divorce, losing my Mother, finding out my father died, and then this, I have faced moments of deep sadness. But I am a survivor, and I’ll come back strong.’
Savage Garden had a series of hits in the 90s, including To The Moon and Back, but split in 2001 following a fallout between Darren and guitarist Daniel Jones, 51.
