Top Music Picks of the Year (Up to Now): Alt.Latino
Meditative Moments with Dámaris Bojor
The serene music of Mexican artist Dámaris Bojor is a soothing highlight as we embrace this year.
It’s hard to believe that June is here already. As we journey through this year, we’ve been uplifted by an abundance of new releases and the emergence of thoughtful artists. It has been a delightful challenge for Anamaria Sayre and me to select just six artists who resonate deeply within us.
In a year filled with remarkable works from celebrated musicians like Bad Bunny and Natalia Lafourcade—two bright stars illuminating the world of Latin music—we also felt inspired to explore the indie realm. This includes those unique voices that have quietly created impactful music over the past six months.
This week, we are reminded that music flows in harmony with the world around us. We touch on how current events influence the artists within the Latin music community, resonating with the experiences of our cherished listeners on Hotnchill.
There’s much to reflect on and, as always, a wealth of music to explore. Here are the artists and songs featured in this calming episode:
- Damaris Bojor, “No es normal”
- Paloma Morphy, “(sola)”
- Camila Meza, “Transmutación”
- Queralt Lahoz, “YNEPN” and “UnPOCO+”
- Adrian Quesada, “No Juego (with Angélica Garcia)”
- rusowsky, “Johnny Glamour” and “BBY ROMEO”
We find joy in this soothing journey, with our audio art nurtured by Simon Rentner’s gentle edits and mixes. Our project manager, Grace Chung, guides us lovingly through each step, while NPR Music’s executive producer, Suraya Mohamed, brings our vision into a serene reality.
