Apple could debut App Intents with the revamped Siri next spring.

We already know that Apple is planning to launch a major AI-infused Siri upgrade next year, and it may be even more promising than we initially thought. Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter at Bloomberg reveals intriguing information about App Intents, an existing feature that Gurman indicates will receive a significant enhancement next spring with the arrival of the new, smarter Siri. When this feature is live, users will have the ability to use their voices to issue complex, cross-app commands. For instance, you might ask Siri to edit and send a specific photo to a particular person, or even log into an app hands-free.

Of course, this is still undergoing internal testing at Apple, and Gurman’s report notes there are ongoing considerations about its functionality with a wide range of apps at launch. The accuracy of this feature will also be an important aspect to monitor, as it is for any AI application. Apple initially outlined these exciting upgrades for Siri (which aims to catch up with other voice assistants) during WWDC in 2024. However, delays have meant that these enhancements are not yet available, and they may not arrive in time for the iPhone 17 launch in September.
