This intimate performance at the Tiny Desk features selections from her richly layered album, Lives Outgrown, released last year. While Gibbons’ solo work diverges sonically from the haunting electronic soundscape of Portishead, it remains deeply entwined with themes of loss, change, and a restless spirit. Within these new melodies lies an invitation to witness Gibbons’ own journey of transformation. For this special performance, Gibbons and her seven-piece band chose to play entirely acoustic, scaling back their expansive stage presence to highlight the intimacy of their music. They conclude with “Mysteries,” the opening track from 2002’s Out of Season, her collaboration with Rustin Man (Paul Webb of Talk Talk). “Oh, mysteries of love where war is no more / I’ll be there anytime,” she sings.
