Weekly Chart: Crypto Might Have Its Own ‘Inverse Cramer’, Generating Millions in Profits

Meet James Wynn, the pseudonymous trader on Hyperliquid who gained notoriety for his $1 billion bitcoin short bet and may now be earning a different kind of recognition: as crypto’s own “Inverse Cramer.” For those unfamiliar with the Cramer lore, he’s the high-octane mascot of CNBC’s Mad Money, a former hedge fund manager turned stock picker known for a hit-or-miss track record that morphed into a meme. Many retail traders began to adopt a strategy of doing the opposite of his recommendations, leading to the launch of an “Inverse Cramer ETF.” Although that fund was later discontinued, the meme persists.

Now, it seems crypto traders are finding their own version of “Inverse Jim Cramer” in James Wynn’s trading wallet. “The winning strategy lately? Do the opposite of James Wynn,” noted blockchain analyst Lookonchain in a post on X, highlighting a trader who has profited significantly by countering Wynn’s trades.

“0x2258 has been counter-trading James Wynn—shorting when Wynn goes long, and going long when he shorts. Over the past week, 0x2258 has made approximately $17M, while James Wynn has lost around $98M,” Lookonchain reported. Earning seventeen million dollars in a week by betting against a single trader is quite impressive. However, this strategy may only work in the short term, and caution is essential, as the trading landscape can change rapidly, potentially resulting in significant losses if not managed correctly.

James Wynn himself remarked, “I’ll run it back, I always do. And I’ll enjoy doing it. I like playing the game,” after experiencing a complete liquidation over the weekend. So, although the question might arise: “How much money would you have made if you did the exact opposite of James Wynn?”—the underlying message is clear: in a market where perception plays a crucial role, even your PnL can become the subject of memes.
