CoinDesk Reveals Eric Trump as Keynote Speaker for Consensus 2025
Eric Trump, the second son of U.S. President Donald Trump, is scheduled to speak at this year’s Consensus conference, where he will share his vision for reshaping bitcoin mining in the United States. Trump will discuss American Bitcoin, a new venture he co-founded with Hut 8, where he holds the position of Chief Strategy Officer.
“The launch of American Bitcoin represents a transformative moment for Bitcoin mining in North America,” Trump stated. “I am proud to finally unveil our ambitious vision for this initiative, which we believe will become the world’s largest and most efficient pure-play Bitcoin miner.” Launched on March 31, American Bitcoin aims to achieve over 50 EH/s of mining capacity.
Eric Trump is set to present on May 15 at Consensus 2025, which will be held in Toronto from May 14-16. The Consensus conference, organized by CoinDesk, is recognized as the longest-running event in the digital assets industry, often attracting over 15,000 attendees. This year’s event will take place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in downtown Toronto.
American Bitcoin is one of several crypto initiatives by the Trump family. Eric Trump also supports World Liberty Financial, a DeFi protocol that is developing a blockchain-based marketplace for users to borrow and lend cryptocurrencies, create liquidity pools, and trade stablecoins. In March, WLFI announced its plans to introduce its own stablecoin, USD1, with custody services provided by BitGo.
Additionally, Eric Trump serves as an advisor to Metaplanet, the largest holder of bitcoin in Japan, which follows a bitcoin treasury model similar to that of Michael Saylor. He is also an advisor to Dominari Holdings, a wealth management firm that, in March, disclosed a $2 million investment in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) shares.
In a recent interview, Eric Trump mentioned that the Trump Organization turned to cryptocurrency after being “debanked” by multiple financial institutions during the Biden Administration. “It actually drove us toward cryptocurrency,” he said. “You realize that cryptocurrency was a lot faster, a lot more pragmatic, a lot more transparent, and exponentially cheaper.”
“I know almost everybody in the industry in some way, shape, or form,” he added. “I fell in love with the industry a few years ago and really dived in.” However, not all of Eric Trump’s crypto ventures have been successful. In February, he tweeted that it was a “good time to add” ether (ETH) when it was trading around $2,700. Currently, it is trading near $1,500.
