Drake Parallels Fake Friends with Bitcoin’s Fluctuations: “Low This Week, High Next”

Drake’s latest track, “What Did I Miss,” features lyrics about betrayal, luxury, and bitcoin. The rapper compares fickle friends to the cryptocurrency’s rollercoaster price moves, saying he looks at it “like a BTC”: “Could be down this week, then I’m up next week.” It’s not the first time bitcoin has been part of Drake’s narrative. In recent years, the Canadian superstar has become one of crypto’s most notable figures.

The rapper shared a clip on his Instagram account, which boasts over 146 million followers, where a Strategy’s co-founder remarked that bitcoin would “eat” gold. He has also wagered more than $1 million worth of bitcoin on losing bets for the Dallas Mavericks and Edmonton Oilers, alongside other high-profile bets on UFC fights and Formula One races.

Drake’s betting track record has sparked memes dubbed the “Drake Curse,” referencing the losses experienced by the teams and athletes he backs. The rapper addressed this notion, telling fans he’s simply a “flawed sports bettor.”

However, Drake isn’t just taking chances. He has partnered with a crypto gambling platform, with reports suggesting the partnership is valued at $100 million annually. Beyond the casino lights, Drake has made noteworthy investments in crypto firms, including MoonPay, and has showcased hardware wallets on social media.

Interestingly, Drake’s mention of bitcoin’s volatility comes at a time interpreted as the calm before the storm. Deribit’s bitcoin volatility index (DVOL) has dropped to nearly a two-year low at 38.
