Elon Musk, as is his way, shared some pointed thoughts on Twitter Monday night, focusing on Apple. He expressed his concerns, stating, “Apple is behaving in a manner that makes it impossible for any AI company besides OpenAI to reach #1 in the App Store, which raises questions about fairness. xAI is considering its options.”

Interestingly, Musk’s post was quickly addressed by community feedback, noting that both Deepseek and Perplexity had reached the top of the App Store charts, even amidst the partnership announcements between Apple and OpenAI in 2024.

Despite this, Musk continued to share his thoughts about Apple, suggesting it was affecting the visibility of xAI and its AI chatbot, Grok. He remarked, “What choice do we have? Apple didn’t just put their thumb on the scale; they put their whole body!”

Musk has not yet presented evidence supporting his claims against Apple. At present, ChatGPT holds the top position on the App Store charts, while Grok is in the fifth position, trailing behind Threads. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded to Musk’s remarks, stating, “This is a remarkable claim given what I have heard about Elon’s influence on X to benefit himself and his companies while impacting competitors.”
