Elon Musk’s X Set to Provide Investment and Trading Options “Soon,” According to FT
Elon Musk’s X is intensifying its efforts to transform the social media platform into an “everything app,” as reported by the Financial Times. The platform, which was previously known as Twitter, will “soon” enable users to make investments or trades directly on the site, according to CEO Linda Yaccarino in an interview at the Cannes Lions advertising festival. “Soon you’re going to be able to live your whole financial life on the platform,” Yaccarino stated during a panel, mentioning features like peer-to-peer (P2P) payments, value storage, paying creators, and accessing pay-per-view (PPV) events as examples.
Earlier this year, X partnered with Visa to create “X Money,” a digital wallet and P2P-payment service. This initiative is part of Musk’s vision to evolve X into a super app, similar to the functionalities offered by WeChat in China, which integrates various retail and financial services along with messaging.
Musk has garnered attention within the cryptocurrency space over the years, notably due to his enthusiasm for the memecoin DOGE and Tesla’s holdings of 11,500 BTC (approximately $1.2 billion). Thus, it is reasonable to expect that any financial services offered by X may incorporate cryptocurrency in some capacity.
X did not immediately respond to inquiries for additional comments.
