‘Football Manager 25’ canceled not long before it was supposed to come out

The announcement trailer, released Wednesday, maintains a sense of mystery regarding specifics but offers a captivating glimpse of in-game match day visuals. This marks a heartfelt return for the series after the unexpected cancellation of Football Manager 25 in February, due to challenges that pushed it beyond its usual November launch window. This was the first time in over three decades that a Football Manager or Championship Manager entry did not meet its anticipated yearly release.

Sports Interactive highlighted various factors that contributed to the cancellation of FM25, primarily the transition to Unreal Engine and the groundbreaking inclusion of women’s football for the first time in the franchise’s history. Before the cancellation, the studio shared a general development roadmap for FM25 through blog posts, but initial fan reactions to the new look were, understandably, mixed.

While we await further updates, including a release date for FM26 and any potential changes to the user interface, the trailer assures us that a more detailed first look at the new match day experience will be revealed soon.
