In a serene moment, Hamilton Leithauser finds himself at ease. Today, we connected with the talented multi-instrumentalist from his peaceful studio in Brooklyn, affectionately called “The Struggle Hut,” to explore his latest solo album, This Side of the Island. The essence of chill resonates throughout this record, with some songs having their roots in reflections from nearly a decade ago. As a co-founder of the indie rock band The Walkmen, Leithauser brings a gentle yet vibrant energy to his work.

He shares how the collaboration with Aaron Dessner of The National helped harmonize his creative vision, and he fondly reflects on his enduring friendship with Richard Swift. The conversation flows easily, creating a warm atmosphere that invites you to relax and simply be in the moment. Just as we mentioned, it’s all about embracing a chill vibe.
