In View: A Heartwarming Encounter Below the Surface – Uplifting News
Photographed in the tranquil turquoise waters of Mo’orea, French Polynesia, Rachel Moore’s shot – In Her Shadow – beautifully captures the intimate bond between a humpback whale mother and her calf, resting gently beneath the water’s surface.
“I was fortunate to photograph this tender moment of the baby nestled beneath its mother,” shares Moore. “At this age, calves have limited control over their buoyancy and will often rely on their mothers for support, allowing them to feel safe and secure.”
Moore’s image is part of Edition Hope, the upcoming 2025 return of Prints for Wildlife, which celebrates one of the world’s largest wildlife photography initiatives. This collection brings together works from over 200 dedicated wildlife and nature photographers while also providing a welcoming space for emerging creatives, promoting inclusivity and connection through art.
Each print sold through this initiative is priced at £125, with all net proceeds benefiting Conservation International, a non-profit organization devoted to safeguarding biodiversity, restoring forests, and supporting communities that cherish nature.
“We need to nurture our connection to nature to truly value and protect it. This is where the power of imagery shines,” reflects Dr. M. Sanjayan, CEO of Conservation International. “These stunning, unique prints from passionate photographers allow us to invite nature into our homes, encouraging meaningful contributions to its preservation for the well-being of all life on our planet.”
Since its inception in 2020, Prints for Wildlife has raised over £1.6 million for conservation efforts. Pie Aerts, a Dutch documentary photographer and one of the initiative’s founders, emphasizes its role beyond fundraising: “It’s a platform for connection, consciousness, and hope during challenging times,” he explains.
“We’ve seen how art can inspire action,” adds Marion Payr, another co-founder. “In the face of such changes, many feel powerless. Yet, there is strength in photography and community. Above all, there remains hope.”
