Katy Perry has come under fire by some fans who have criticized her current world tour. In recent weeks, the pop star, 40, has faced backlash for participating in Jeff Bezos’ 11-minute all-female Blue Origin mission into space. She received the brunt of the criticism, with many questioning the environmental impact of what some are calling a ‘vanity flight’. However, after brushing off the criticism and describing the flight as ‘life-changing’, Katy has kicked off her Lifetimes tour, her first in seven years. She is set to perform 84 concerts, including eight in the UK. Clips from the first show, held in Mexico City two days ago, have sparked reactions online, with many branding it ‘cringe’.

Videos on social media show Katy dancing on stage, swinging from side to side, throwing her hands up in the air, and wiggling her bum while pretending to fall on the floor. Many viewers expressed their disappointment. ‘This is the worst choreography I have ever seen in my life,’ Madji commented on TikTok.

‘Is she being bad on purpose?’ Marlee questioned. ‘Why does it feel like her opening night concert was more of a rehearsal than an actual tour performance?’ Gianfranco added. Meanwhile, Lucky quipped: ‘Maybe she should have gone to rehearsals instead of space.’

On social media, user Mo wrote: ‘She needs to cancel this tour before it cancels her career I’m so serious.’ Others even compared her dancing to viral Olympic breakdancer Raygun’s. During her show, Katy also referenced her controversial space flight, asking the audience: ‘Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?’ She later posed for a selfie with two men wearing blue NASA jumpsuits. Katy’s Lifetimes tour will run until December 7; however, she announced earlier this week that she had to cancel two major shows.

On Monday, she revealed her concerts in Guadalajara, Mexico, scheduled for May 1 and 2 had to be called off because the stadium hosting them was not built in time. ‘Sadly, I learned that the construction of Arena Guadalajara will not be complete for their scheduled shows next week, which includes mine on May 1 and 2,’ she posted on Instagram. ‘Last week I sent my team to the Arena to make sure there wasn’t anything we could do to make this happen, but it was evident when they arrived that the venue was not ready or safe to receive my show or an audience. I wish I could fix this, but it is beyond my control. You guys mean the world to me, and we have all been on such a beautiful journey together that I will be thinking about how I can create something special for the fans in Guadalajara in the future. I love you ALL.’
