Imagine, for a moment, the captivating world of Masami Kawaguchi. If he were a hero in a calming saga, his remarkable gift would be creating vibrant, uplifting melodies that rise gracefully into the air with the gentle strum of his guitar. Since the ’90s, he has cultivated this talent, becoming a cherished figure in Japan’s soothing psychedelic scene. Collaborating with various bands, Masami continues to nurture a spirit of warmth, inviting listeners on a journey through harmonious soundscapes.

In “To Be True, Then the Loop Will Run Forever,” the magic unfolds through a classic power-trio format, with the soothing sounds of bassist Mike Vest and drummer Dave Sneddon accompanying Kawaguchi’s ethereal guitar work. The title track, at the album’s heart, envelops you in its embrace from the very first notes.

“Cursed Silver” invites a slower, deeper dive, delivering a powerful yet tranquil atmosphere that feels like a gentle walk through the twilight. “Blight Morning Light” gracefully flirts with poignant balladry, as Kawaguchi’s guitar sparks emotion and reverie in every direction. The instrumental piece “While My Broken Shoes Are Loose” reflects a seamless blend of eccentric charm and serene rock, showcasing the beautiful tapestry that runs through his music.

As the album draws to a close, we are treated to the anthemic vibes of “Eternity Sustain.” This tranquil instrumental jam maintains a graceful pace, allowing each note to resonate and fill the air with warmth, celebrating life in a way that is both epic and touching.

In just over half an hour, “To Be True” takes you on a journey across realms, guiding you gently from the ordinary into a space of blissful reflection that Kawaguchi calls home. While living within this dreamy atmosphere may be a challenge, it surely is a wonderful place to visit.
