Monero Surpasses Litecoin and Toncoin in Market Cap, Joining the Top 25 Rankings
Privacy-focused cryptocurrency Monero has overtaken Litecoin and Toncoin to secure a place among the top 25 digital assets by market value. The so-called flippening is highlighted by XMR’s market capitalization exceeding $7.5 billion, surpassing TON’s $7.48 billion and LTC’s $7.35 billion, according to data from Coingecko.
Monero (XMR) is a decentralized, peer-to-peer cryptocurrency with privacy-enhancing technologies that obscure transaction details. This feature renders traditional financial tracking and interception methods largely ineffective, which partly explains its appeal to certain illicit activities. Earlier this year, reports indicated that a media outlet affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) Pakistan Province published a poster calling for contributions of “jihad with wealth” and sought donations in Monero.
Despite its controversial reputation, the price of Monero has surged over 100% to above $400 this year, reaching levels last observed in early 2021, as shown by CoinDesk data. This rally is largely attributed to optimism surrounding an upcoming privacy upgrade and speculation about potential relistings by major exchanges, including U.S.-listed platforms.
In contrast, Litecoin (LTC), often viewed as the silver counterpart to Bitcoin’s gold, has dropped 6% this year and is trading below $100. Toncoin, which is closely tied to the economy of the social messaging app Telegram, has seen a decline of 25% this year.
