Today’s Moon Phase Unveiled: How the Moon Will Appear on November 30, 2025

We’re just a few days away from the Full Moon now, and the moon shines brightly in the night sky. There’s so much beauty to explore when you look up, so let’s take a moment to appreciate what you can see.

What is today’s moon phase? As of Sunday, Nov. 30, the moon phase is Waxing Gibbous. This means that 74% of the moon is illuminated tonight, according to NASA’s Daily Moon Observation. If you gaze at the moon without any visual aids, you may spot the Vaporum, Crisium, and Fecunditatis Mares. With a pair of binoculars, you’ll be delighted to discover the Endymion and Alphonsus Craters, along with the majestic Apennine Mountains. If you have a telescope at hand, now is the perfect time to try and catch a glimpse of the Apollo 11 and 14 landing spots, as well as the stunning Caucasus Mountains.

When is the next full moon? The upcoming full moon will occur on Dec. 4, marking the last of three consecutive supermoons. Just as a reminder, the previous full moon was on Nov. 5.

What are moon phases? NASA explains that the lunar cycle, which spans about 29.5 days, consists of the Moon’s phases, reflecting how it appears from Earth as it orbits around us. We always see the same side of the Moon, yet the sunlight illuminating its surface changes, revealing a wonderful array of appearances—from full and bright to subtle and dim. The cycle comprises eight distinct phases:

• New Moon – The moon lies between Earth and the sun, so the side we see remains dark, rendering it invisible to the eye.
• Waxing Crescent – A small sliver of light appears on the right side (Northern Hemisphere).
• First Quarter – Half of the moon is illuminated on the right side, creating a lovely half-moon.
• Waxing Gibbous – More than half is illuminated, yet it’s not quite full.
• Full Moon – The entire face of the moon is wonderfully illuminated and fully visible.
• Waning Gibbous – The moon begins to lose light on the right side (Northern Hemisphere).
• Third Quarter (or Last Quarter) – Another half-moon, but now the left side is aglow.
• Waning Crescent – A delicate sliver of light lingers on the left side before the moon becomes dark again.
