We now have a delightful first glimpse of Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Jane Austen’s cherished 1813 novel, Pride and Prejudice, currently in production in the UK. The photo showcases the full ensemble of the charming Bennet sisters and their mother, Mrs. Bennet. Olivia Colman will portray the loving matriarch, Mrs. Bennet, famously exclaiming, “You have no compassion for my poor nerves!”
So, who are the talented actresses bringing the Bennet sisters to life? Emma Corrin (Nosferatu, The Crown) will grace the screen as Lizzy Bennet, while Freya Mavor (Industry) takes on the role of Jane Bennet. Rhea Norwood (Heartstopper, Cabaret) will embody Lydia Bennet, and Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery will make their wonderful screen debuts as Mary and Kitty Bennet, respectively.
Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat) will play the caring patriarch, Mr. Bennet, along with Jamie Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats, Barbie) portraying the rather peculiar Mr. Collins. The esteemed Lady Catherine de Bourgh will be brought to life by the talented Fiona Shaw.
Daryl McCormack (Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery; Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) will charmingly step into the shoes of Mr. Bingley, while Louis Partridge (House of Guinness, Disclaimer) will take on the role of the dashing yet somewhat troublesome Mr. Wickham. The proud, handsome Mr. Darcy will be portrayed by Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Benediction), who has expressed his excitement about representing a ginger Mr. Darcy.
This six-part limited series is crafted by the gifted Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love) and directed by Euros Lyn (Heartstopper). Netflix describes it as “a faithful, classic adaptation of the novel.”
“Once in a generation, a group of people gets to retell this wonderful story, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of it,” Alderton shared. “Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to discover both familiar and fresh ways to bring this beloved book to life.” The release date for this eagerly awaited series remains to be announced.
