Props and Costumes from ‘Our Flag Means Death’ Available for Bidding in an Online Auction

It’s been a year and a half since HBO Max (then just Max) canceled Our Flag Means Death, the queer pirate comedy created by David Jenkins and starring Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi. While the show may have come to a close, fans now have an opportunity to cherish a piece of the series, as Heritage Auctions is hosting a sale of props and costumes from the show.

The auction is part of Heritage’s HBO Mashup event, which also includes items from Barry, Big Little Lies, Curb Your Enthusiasm, White House Plumbers, and Perry Mason. The Our Flag Means Death lots feature delightful treasures such as “Wanted” posters for Blackbeard (Waititi), as well as pirate swords, daggers, and pistols. One standout is the mermaid tail that Stede Bonnet (Darby) donned during a memorable Season 2 dream sequence. There are also several costume pieces available, including Stede’s exquisite coats and Blackbeard’s striking leather battle ensembles.

At the time of writing, several lots are still starting at just $1, providing an accessible way for fans to engage. Interestingly, the most sought-after item currently is the Stede and Blackbeard wedding toppers from Season 2, which is now over $1,000. The auction will conclude on August 23.

Heritage Auctions isn’t alone in celebrating Our Flag Means Death. In February and March of 2025, fans organized the Our Flag Means Death craft fair, a heartfelt 19-day fundraiser that raised $105,000 for the Campaign for Southern Equality’s Trans Youth Emergency Project. Many of the items for sale were created by fans, ranging from embroidered pieces to jewelry. Additionally, the Craft Fair auction featured generous donations from the show’s cast and crew, including a special teapot from Jenkins and a prop that Waititi doodled on during filming.
