Vast Data Breach at Major Healthcare Company Affects Millions

A significant data breach at Laboratory Services Cooperative (LSC), a medical non-profit, has compromised sensitive information for 1.6 million individuals. LSC provides lab testing services to various Planned Parenthood centers and has alerted that those who have visited these centers may be impacted. “If you, or someone whose healthcare bills you pay for, visited one of these centers and had lab tests conducted or were referred for lab tests, your information might be part of this incident,” LSC stated in a recent announcement.

“Please be advised that this incident did not involve all Planned Parenthood centers. It specifically may have impacted only those centers that received lab testing services from LSC.” LSC has a dedicated portal for frequently asked questions regarding the data breach, including information about the states where they partner with Planned Parenthood. The data that has been breached varies for each individual, but LSC mentioned that several types of information — such as medical details — could be affected. In their announcement, LSC noted that data potentially exposed in the breach might include:

– Medical/Clinical Information: This may consist of details such as date(s) of service, diagnoses, treatment, medical record number, lab results, patient/accession number, provider name, treatment location, and related-care details.
– Health Insurance Information: This may include plan name, plan type, insurance companies, and member/group ID numbers.
– Billing, Claims, and Payment Data: This could involve claim numbers, billing details, bank account specifics (including bank name, account number, and routing number), billing codes, payment card information, balance details, and similar financial data.
– Additional Identifiers: This may encompass Social Security Number, driver’s license or state ID number, passport number, date of birth, demographic information, student ID number, and other forms of government identifiers.

LSC has stated it is providing “free credit monitoring and medical identity protection services” to individuals who believe their information may have been compromised. If you suspect that you are affected, you can find further information on LSC’s site.
