Sasha Keable: Intimate Live Performance at the Tiny Desk

Many artists who have graced the Tiny Desk stage have found inspiration through their loved ones. Recently, Marvin Sapp shared that his children encouraged him to take part. For Sasha Keable, it was her father who introduced her to this cherished platform back in 2009 when Tom Jones performed. Although she set ambitious goals for her music career, Sasha encountered a series of challenges that could have led her to reconsider her path. Yet, her Tiny Desk performance embodies her resilience—a heartfelt moment in a journey that is beautifully unfolding.

I first discovered Keable through her 2019 release, MAN EP, which transported me back to my initial encounter with the soulful sounds of Amy Winehouse. Her music felt raw, and her delivery was bold, yet there was a unique power and range that set her apart from everything else I was experiencing. I invited her to the Tiny Desk several months later, but the arrival of COVID-19 altered those plans. In 2021, the British Colombian singer-songwriter released Intermission, but it was last year when everything harmoniously aligned for her, as a series of singles bridged connections with audiences both abroad and in the United States, including a shout-out from Beyoncé in a GQ magazine interview.

Keable journeyed from South London, collaborating with the Slim Wav-led Band of Brothas to create a vibrant medley from her forthcoming EP, *act right*, all while her father proudly looked on.
