Shark’s latest Glam multi-styler resembles the FlexFusion closely—what sets them apart?

Shark has unveiled a new multi-styler perfect for both wet and dry hair, bringing excitement to styling enthusiasts. The newly introduced tool, the Shark Glam, was announced in a press release on August 11. It is described as “the first multi-styler that offers the versatility of air styling along with ceramic hot tool styling, ensuring salon-quality results that you can achieve at home.” If you recall the Shark FlexFusion, you may find this claim raises a few questions.

As of August 11, the Glam is available exclusively on the Sephora app, with general public availability beginning August 12 for $449 through both Sephora and Hotnchill.

A quick glance at the product listings confirms that there are indeed similarities between the Glam and the FlexFusion:

Having explored Shark’s beauty tools before, I was struck by the innovation of products like the FlexStyle and FlexFusion. Thus, I felt a bit surprised by the marketing surrounding the new Glam tool. Sharks’ social media teasers seem to suggest that this multi-styler is entirely unique. To clarify, I reached out to Shark to understand the differences between the Shark Glam and the Shark FlexFusion.

How is the Shark Glam different from the Shark FlexFusion?

Shark’s team shared three main differences between the Glam and the FlexFusion:

• The Shark Glam attachments utilize a new Heat Sense technology, improving heat distribution for better styling and temperature control.
• The Shark Glam’s Silki straightener is “slimmer and lighter” than the Shark FlexFusion Wet-or-Dry air straightener and comes with a sensor that reduces airflow when not actively styling.
• The power cord is lighter, contributing to an overall lighter design for the styler.

While I haven’t personally tested the lighter power cord or the new heat sense technology yet, the straightener attachment does indeed appear more compact in the photos of both multi-stylers placed side by side.

Much like the FlexFusion and other Dyson AirWrap alternatives, the Shark Glam is offered in several configurations. Its starting price of $449 for five distinct attachments marks it as the most expensive entry point among Shark’s multi-stylers, yet it boasts the best variety of attachments available in any of Shark’s base models. In comparison, the Shark FlexFusion customizable models begin at $349.99 (for the straightener plus two attachments) and reach $399.99 with additional options.

The Shark Glam attachments

The Shark Glam offers two models: straight & wavy and curly & coily. As of this writing, only one Shark Glam model is available online. Here’s the breakdown:

Straight & Wavy

• Shark Glossi: a ceramic round brush that combines heat and air for styling
• Shark Silki: an air straightener featuring ceramic hot plates for versatile styling
• 1.25-inch Coanda Auto-Wrap curlers: these curlers “grab” the hair for air styling and are also part of the Shark FlexFusion and FlexStyle
• FrizzFighter: a tool designed to use Coanda air for smoothing flyaways
• Concentrator: a standard blow dryer attachment for focused airflow while drying

For comparison, the Shark FlexFusion also has a model featuring a similar lineup of products priced at $429.99. However, it does not include the slimmer straightener, lighter cord, or the enhanced heat technology.

Curly & Coily

The curly & coily model adds one additional attachment compared to its FlexFusion counterpart. The lineup includes:

• The wide tooth comb, which is available on the FlexFusion as part of build-your-own sets or for separate purchase.

Shark’s advancements in heat technology appear to cater specifically to those with type three and four hair. According to the press release, Shark Beauty’s CMO, Kleona Mack, stated, “Shark Glam was designed to address an unmet need – especially with textured hair. Hair types 3 and 4 have long been underserved in the styling tool category, and we knew it was time to raise the bar.”

If you’re particularly interested in the new attachments on both models, individual attachments will be available for purchase and will function seamlessly with the main unit of the Fusion. However, you would still miss out on the heat and airflow technology, which are components of the Glam’s main unit.
