Stephen Colbert ridicules Trump’s resurgence of the Presidential Fitness Test.
On Thursday, an executive order was signed to revive the Presidential Fitness Test for school children across the U.S. This initiative sparked humor from The Late Show’s Stephen Colbert, who gently suggested it meant “now children will have to be as fit as President Trump.”
Channeling his inner gym teacher during Thursday’s monologue, Colbert playfully remarked, “Alright everyone, hop on that golf cart and start enjoying those tasty snacks until you feel a little wobbly. And dip, and munch, and dip, and munch. Now it’s time to relax and enjoy some television.”
Colbert highlighted that the Presidential Fitness Test has been a part of American culture since 1966, noting that the program was modified in 2012 during the Obama administration to prioritize individual health over athletic achievements.
“How about that?” said Colbert. “Let’s encourage children to engage in fun challenges for our entertainment! I remember doing it in school, and I believe every child should have the opportunity to tackle timed sit-ups while a friend cheers them on. Think about it! If we don’t embrace those lighthearted moments, where will the future comedians find their inspiration?”
