The entire season kicked off with Abby's desire to avenge her father, the Firefly doctor whom Joel (Pedro Pascal) killed at the end of Season 1. But after she got her vengeance on Joel — emotionally breaking audiences everywhere in the process — she unknowingly set someone else on a path of revenge: Ellie's. As Ellie is primed to head down a darker, more violent path, a reporter asked Ramsey about the evolution of their performance, and how it may mirror Pascal's in Season 1. 

"Ellie really is becoming Joel in a certain way, and would hate that if you said it to her, because she thinks that she's the opposite to him," Ramsey said. "In fact, they're kind of two sides of the same coin." The reporter also spoke to Dever about Abby's headspace at the beginning of the season, in the wake of her father's death — a state of mind that echoes Ellie's in the latter half of Season 2. 

"She's a little lost, she's really broken," Dever said. "I think that she's just trying to make sense of what's just happened to her."
