Trump Organization markets ‘Trump 2028’ merchandise, sparking speculation about potential third term campaign.
A “Trump 2028” hat is available for purchase through the official online store of the Trump Organization. The store commenced sales of red hats and T-shirts featuring the “Trump 2028” slogan, sparking renewed speculation about former President Donald Trump potentially pursuing a third term in the White House, despite constitutional limitations.
When questioned about the merchandise, the White House directed inquiries to the Trump Organization, which did not respond to requests for comment. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt remarked, “It’s a cool hat, and I suspect it will be highly popular!” The hat is priced at $50, while a red shirt with the “Trump 2028” logo and “Rewrite the Rules” underneath is available for $36.
Trump has often hinted at the possibility of a third presidential run, which would necessitate an amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The 22nd Amendment specifies that “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” Trump was elected in 2016 and again in 2020.
In late March, Trump did not dismiss the idea of seeking reelection in 2028. “A lot of people want me to do it,” Trump shared, adding that it was still early in the current administration. When asked if he desired a third term, Trump stated, “I like working,” emphasizing that it was premature to consider such a move.
“There are methods which you could do it,” he noted, alluding to the potential for serving another term. In a private meeting with Republicans following his November electoral victory over Democratic former Vice President Kamala Harris, he expressed skepticism about running again, unless he was deemed indispensable.
During a May 2024 address to the National Rifle Association, Trump posed the question, “Are we going to be considered three-term or two-term if we win?” Former White House advisor Steve Bannon claimed on a recent program that “President Trump is going to run for a third term, and President Trump is going to be elected again,” projecting that “on the afternoon of January 20th of 2029, he’s going to be president of the United States.” Bannon claimed to have a team preparing for this possibility.
In early January, Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee introduced a resolution in the House aimed at amending the Constitution to allow Trump or any future president to serve a third term. This proposal specifically permits Trump a third term while preventing the three living two-term former presidents from doing the same. According to the amendment, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms.” In contrast, former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama each completed two consecutive terms, while current President Joe Biden has served one term.
