President Donald Trump told a news outlet on Saturday that Elon Musk would face “serious consequences” if he supports Democratic candidates challenging Republican endorsements for the “big, beautiful bill.”

“If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that,” Trump said in a phone interview. “He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that,” he continued, without specifying what that might entail.

Trump also expressed that his relationship with Musk appears to be over after a public feud that erupted this week. “I gave him a lot of breaks, long before this happened, and saved his life in my first administration,” Trump stated. “I have no intention of speaking to him,” he added. When asked if he believed his relationship with Musk is concluded, he replied, “I would assume so.”

Trump accused Musk of being “disrespectful to the office of the president.” His remarks are among his most detailed public comments regarding the dispute with Musk, indicating a lack of interest in reconciling with the former ally.

Musk has been openly critical of the Trump-backed spending bill that recently passed through the House. Earlier this week, he referred to the bill as a “disgusting abomination” that could lead to soaring federal budget deficits. “In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people,” he wrote in a separate post.

Musk’s criticism of the spending package—currently under Senate consideration—has fueled the tension between the two. Trump asserted that he remains “very confident” the bill will pass by July 4, and he doesn’t believe Musk could derail it. “If you look at the Republicans, we’ve never been more unified,” Trump noted. “The bill is fantastic.”
