Truth Social’s AI Search is Politically Correct Enough to Challenge Trump

Less than a week after unveiling a new AI search engine powered by Perplexity, designed with great attention to sourcing, Truth Social’s AI tool is presenting some unexpected responses. The Truth Search AI, a platform designed to provide answers, has been developed by Trump Media and Technology Group with the intention of “increasing the amount of information” accessible to users and delivering “direct, contextually accurate answers with transparent citations.” Despite this, representatives from Perplexity have mentioned that the sources for this search tool can be adjusted by its overseers, a process known as source selection. Early evaluations by Axios revealed that Truth Search AI appears to draw its answers primarily from traditionally conservative outlets, such as FoxNews.com and FoxBusiness.com, unlike Perplexity’s standard offering.

However, amidst this curated approach, Truth Search AI is not aligning wholly with the standard narratives from the Trump Administration. An analysis by the Washington Post indicated that the AI tool often contradicted assertions made by the President, rather than confirming them as factually correct. These included statements regarding the effects of international tariffs on American consumers and the perceived crime issues in the national capital.

“Their own AI is now being seen as a bit too ‘woke’ for them,” noted David Karpf, a professor at George Washington University, in his remarks to the publication. While the tool primarily referenced conservative news and entertainment sources, its conclusions may not be as straightforward as anticipated. Trump Media chose not to comment to the Washington Post, deeming their findings as “transparently asinine” reporting.

Part of what he terms a government-wide “truth-seeking” endeavor, Trump has recently voiced criticisms of what he calls “Woke AI,” referring to Large Language Models that he perceives as “ideologically biased” and influenced by principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Last month, he initiated an Executive Order aimed at fostering “unbiased AI” within federal contracting and national security. In the meantime, his administration has formed collaborations with leading AI companies to provide services to the federal government, including substantial contracts with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and xAI, owned by Elon Musk.
