Zimbabwe Set to Select Its Most Unattractive Man This November

The ugliest man in Zimbabwe will be crowned on November 25, despite previous challenges in securing funding for the pageant. This year, organizers are excited about the increased support from sponsors, with preliminary contests currently taking place in various regions leading up to the main event.

“Mr. Ugly pageant is on. The sponsors are there. We have active sponsors who have come on board … Harare is large and vibrant, which is why we are holding contests in several suburbs,” shared David Machowa, the founder of the pageant, in a statement.

Last year, there was significant controversy when Mison Sere, the 2015 champion, was crowned. Many participants felt he was too handsome for the title.

The contest, which has been gaining popularity since its inception in 2012, was first won by William Masvinu, who works as a porter and was the runner-up in last year’s event. Some images of Zimbabwe’s newly crowned “Mr. Ugly,” Mison Sere, who received a prize of $500 can be seen in various online platforms.

In the 2015 competition, Sere won $500, while the runner-up took home $100. Both finalists are participating in this year’s preliminary contests with hopes of winning again.

As many know, beauty is subjective—Mison Sere himself declared, “There is no such thing as an ugly…”
